LOOSE L!PS' 10 STEPS TO BECOMING A
SUCCESSFUL NEO-FUNK PRODUCTION DUO
AND THE TALK OF THE BLOGOSPHERE
1. Shroud yourselves in “mystery”
2.Release music videos starring other people—namely, black dance crews—causing the media to jump to the conclusion that the stars of the video are in fact you, despite the fact that you have never stated such. Not to mention, loads of music videos star actors or dancers rather than band members.
3. Release single artwork featuring aforementioned dancers that aren’t you.
4. Let the media assume you really know what you’re doing, genre-wise, because you are a POC.
5. Design sweet bomber jackets emblazoned with your super sweet logo; put them up for sale months before your full-length LP is even a whisper.
6. Start playing shows. As yourselves.
7. Have media realize you are actually skinny, pale, white guys.
8. Let them be chuffed about it. Chuckle at all the ‘cultural appropriation’ grumbling
9. Start giving interviews as yourselves. Suffer through a billion “WHY” questions about your identity and initial presentation.
10. Have it all not matter because your music is really, actually, completely awesome.
I present you: Jungle, with the sounds of summer 2014. Stream their debut album.
Or just make one yourself; you now know all it takes.
Wish they would have released this as their first video so the media assumed they were grandpas.

LOOSE L!PS M!X: Summer Sun

Because I've been unintentionally neglecting LOOSE L!PS a bit, I'm going to try to make up for lost time and missed music with a couple mixtapes. In the days when mixtapes graced this page fairly regularly, they were known as M!Xes. We'll stick with that.
Today's M!X is called Summer Sun, because I worship at the altar of alliteration and am horrible at unique titles. It's supposed to be played at any time in the summer…sun. 24/7 preferably. It's perfect for pool parties, driving around with the top down, or backyard BBQs. I wouldn't really recommend it for lovemaking, but am also assuming you don't get down on your lawn in broad day light. (though if you do, props.)
M!X: Summer Sun from LOOSE L!PS on 8tracks.
Stream the M!X on 8tracks and via the above player, download the M!X via the Zip Folder below, or grab a few choice selections from the Tracklist (in blue).

Love In Motion
Here's something we've been waiting for for a while. A new track off of SebastiAn's upcoming debut LP was just premiered last night on the BBC's Radio 1. Here's a radio rip of the new single, titled Love In Motion, courtesy of the French blog SeekSickSound. Featuring soulful crooner Mayer Hawthorne on vocals, it's deep funk bass line, filtered guitars, and overtly sexual Prince-esque vocal colorations make it perfect baby-making music. Yeah, this is sexy. Between Embody and now this, it seems as though this upcoming album, Total, out May 30th on Ed Banger, will be everything we hoped for...and perhaps even a bit more.

I Like What You're Doing
Not that he ever left, but Australian funk master Cassian is back in a big way with a solo EP, his first in 2 years. I thought that his stellar collaborations and remixes were enough for the discoverse, but I was proven horribly wrong yesterday when he uploaded his new I Like What You’re Doing EP for streaming on his Soundcloud. It’s out in 6 days (that’s the 18th) on Bang Gang Records.
You wanna talk fucking-amazing-mind-blowing-oh-my-god-YES type music?
This is IT you guys. Listen to the title track from the EP and prepare to have your mind blown and your body forced into movement. Disco, baby.
Cassian is playing on March 9th at Paris' Social Club with another artist I’ve liked to freak out about in the past, North Lights. Win.

Holidays (Miami Horror & Cassian Remix)
It's time to address the elephant in the room. I didn't want to say anything yesterday because I was honestly worried it was a glitch in the interface, but I've got confirmation and it's true: I'm now listed on the Hype Machine. Wow. At the end of the day, this doesn't effect my blogging at all. I do this because I love it, I love music, and I love sharing it with other people. What it does effect, however, is the audience I'm reaching. My site traffic has sextupled in the past 24 hours. I'm shocked and humbled. Thanks to everyone who has been with me since the beginning. To everyone else: welcome. I'm so excited about this traffic increase because it now means that I can share the music I love so much with an increasingly wide audience. I'm glad you're here, and I hope that you love what I have to share with you as much as I do. Finally, I hope that I might somehow inspire you to go out there and support your local scene and the artists who's music serves to brighten your day. :)
Anyway, on to the good stuff. If you didn't already know, I'm a huge fan of Australia's Miami Horror. Their album Illumination was one of my favorites of the year, providing me with ample amounts the good-times-had-by-all kind of music I so enjoy. Recently I've been getting into another Australian artist, producer Cassian (if you missed his FANTASTIC funk remix of Swick's Grow Up on my year-end post, be sure to grab it here), so it was quite a treat when I saw that the two had collaborated. Sometime this past fall the Aussies teamed up to remix Holidays, Miami Horror's latest single. It was just released a couple weeks ago as a promotion for both the single and Miami Horror’s Illumination Remixes pack, available here on iTunes. Miami Horror's infectious poppiness and big band panache is perfectly complimented by Cassian’s funk styling and driving bass lines, and the collaboration results in nothing less that a toe-curling mesh of both artists’ styles. This song really does feel like a holiday, as its unabashed joyfulness transports you to another time and place. This is the kind of music that has me bouncing around my room using hairbrushes as mock microphones. Embarrassing? Maybe. Excellent? Most definitely.
